I am pleased to announce my candidacy for the First District *, Johnson County Kansas Board of County Commissioners.
For over 40 years the Northeast area of Johnson County has been my family’s home. It has been an honor to represent my friends and neighbors of Prairie Village as Mayor for the last fourteen years and the preceding ten years as a City Council member. This community involvement as an elected official has instilled in me a deep commitment and interest in elected public service. In keeping with that spirit, I am excited to announce my candidacy.
My passion for public service over the last 35 years is demonstrated by my current service on the Board of Directors of the Mid-America Regional Council as a past Chair, the National Association of Regional Councils, United Community Services of Johnson County and the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce. I have also been involved with many other community oriented boards and activities in Johnson County and the metropolitan region. I became a registered Architect in 1973 and am Principal of my Johnson County architectural firm, RLS Architects, which I founded in 1979.
Johnson County continues to be nationally recognized for its quality of life, and the eleven cities of District One have long been communities of choice. However, we face challenges similar to other successful suburban counties, some of which are: continued growth, aging infrastructure, human services, transportation, public transit, parks and libraries, of which reasonable and acceptable resolution is subject to resource and budget limitations. My continued advocacy for our District, positions me to bring my 35 years of dedicated public service to the position in order to continue positive collaboration between the County and the Cities of the First District. I will work to ensure that Johnson County, and our Cities, will continue to maintain a reputation for excellence by addressing these issues, and others, with thoughtful research towards solutions that will contribute to the continued success of Johnson County, and our Cities, as a great place to live, work and play.
I am honored to be your candidate for County Commissioner and would appreciate your vote on November 4, 2014. Thank you for your interest.
